NETWORK PRACTICES
- Alaska Communications strives to deliver connections to the Internet that are provisioned with adequate capacity to prevent congestion, even during the busiest periods. We do not engage in blocking, throttling, or otherwise discriminate against lawful Internet content, applications, services, or non-harmful devices, nor do we inhibit, or favor applications or classes of applications being used over the network. Alaska Communications does not modify protocols, limit web sites that our customers visit, modify their web search results, redirect typographic error requests, or replace third party advertisements with our own.
- Alaska Communications does not prioritize traffic for the benefit of any affiliate, nor in exchange for monetary or other consideration. Alaska Communications reserves the right to shape traffic to preserve network performance.
- When a customer is infected with malware, we must sometimes limit what ports and sites to which they can connect. In such cases, we simultaneously contact the customer. Alaska Communications performs spam and antivirus filtering for emails destined to our customers and email sent by our customers. These rules are enforced strictly and uniformly.
- Alaska Communications only deploys security measures that might affect a consumer’s ability to access the content, applications, services, and devices when AC needs to preserve network stability or performance.
- Alaska Communications does not inspect or store the actual contents of customer traffic unless required for trouble shooting; does not systematically store customer traffic and does not provide it to third parties. Alaska Communications does not monetize any network data about our customers including geolocation data. Alaska Communications does not collect or sell targeted or aggregated metadata from our customers network usage.
- For trouble shooting and planning purposes, Alaska Communications temporarily keeps data that shows when a particular customer had a particular IP address but only provides this to law enforcement when presented with the appropriate legal instrument.
