My name is Charles Shaw and I’m the IT Director at NANA Management Services. I am the single IT employee. All the other people working in IT come from our outsource partner, TekMake. NMS is owned by Nana Regional Corporations which is one of the Native Corporations. What we do is provide services to diverse business clients throughout the state of Alaska and lower 48. We practice what we preach, because we outsource too. We went to the experts to get our IT and communication products. Alaska Communications and TekMate were the best choices. Both companies helped us when we designed the new locations and services. At the same time they have constantly upgraded the services they offer us, both from the network side and the IT side. We enjoy the benefits as they grow. We started out with a Metro-Ethernet network, with TLS. They’ve now gone to MPLS, and we’re enjoying that. One interesting side is we operate the Arctic Caribou Inn in Deadhorse Alaska. For those who don’t know, Deadhorse is the landing point for the North Slope workers. That’s the only hotel facility within 500 miles available to the public. The property management system that runs off the 3G cellular network was the best connection we can get on the North Slope. You can’t buy a wired connection as fast, you can’t get a wired connection that works as well and the price point – you’ll never beat it. It’s the first place I’ve worked where I don’t have to be reactive and be a fireman because the services I’m getting from Alaska Communications and TekMate took care of those problems. We don’t have network analysts. Reliability is number one – its’ there. We don’t have equipment analysts. We have designed the systems where they don’t go out. We don’t lose data, we don’t lose connectivity. So, I’m no longer a fireman. I’m retired as a fireman.
